Seldom Seen Way

{April 7, 2014}   Community.

There is a lot of talk about community building within our “little” group of Kinksters.

I see interesting and valid points concerning it via some people who have been in the “lifestyle” a long time post about it. I fail to mention that I also have that experience – I tend to keep quiet as I love to sit back, watch and listen. You learn many things about the dynamics of people that way.

Lately though, the little voice in my head is screaming – wanting to reach out and help… so this is my way to start. Let the voices out you could say.

What I do not see are the posts concerning what happens ONCE your community grows in numbers.

Many groups lack structure – yeah, yeah, yeah – I know says the protocol, OCD driven girl. Honestly though, the more people you get involved – the more you need organization otherwise chaos occurs.

I rather get ahead of the game – and plan/set in place structure BEFORE the chaos begins. As much as many view this as a social group – there is still a business side to it.  AND YES – it will be a lot of work.  Putting structure in place takes the work out later down the road once it becomes second nature.

We don’t need to go the whole non-profit organization, society or social enterprise route but use some of the structure that is used to help us as a group to move forward.

Do we have a core committee? You know a core group of people to discuss the “business” part of the group before it is discussed to the group as a whole.

Do we have a Mission for said group? What are our goals?

What are some goals of individuals within the group? Is it to just socialize? Is it to Learn and go to workshops? It is to network?

How does/will the group get towards those goals?

Is money an issue? How are we dealing with that? Donations? Raffles?  Is there ACCOUNTABILITY concerning money especially when it comes to where the money is going? Is there a bank account? Is it only like a petty cash? The big one – is there a Ledger if we are strictly dealing with cash?

On a Personal note – I want to and have no problem of donating to our group – IF I know where that money is going towards and talk about BEFORE spending said money. I want to donate money to the group – so that it can be used for gas to go Winnipeg for workshops, to go to the workshop if there is a fee, and to bring in people to discuss hot topics or demonstrations to name a few. I have several other suggestions for it but I will bore you with those another time.

Structure on a whole helps a community. It is work however it is an awesome way to get the creative juices flowing. It is a way to learn things about the people within your community – things you didn’t (and maybe they didn’t) know they had a strength/talent for and actually Utilize it.
